Re: New to BI and Have Questions

In general I can say I've had good luck with Reolink and Foscam- they're reasonably capable cameras that are wallet-friendly. Others swear by Dahua or Hikvision. I prefer dome or turret style cameras because they have a lower profile and are often more vandal resistant, but your needs will vary bas...

Re: New to BI and Have Questions

Thanks to everyone for the help with the rough wiring. I certainly could not have done it without your assistance. I've never done a camera system before, so help me out if I'm wrong on the next step- buying cameras. My system will have four total cameras (all dome cameras)-2 on the front porch and ...

Re: New to BI and Have Questions

It all depends on your cameras. many of the pigtails on Dahua cameras will require a slightly bigger hole than 3/4 so I have used the mounting boxes like https://www.amazon.com/Aluminum-Junction-HAC-HDW1100-IPC-HDW1000-HDW4300S/dp/B01LYYKLRP so I only have to drill a 1/4" hole to run the RJ45 ...

Re: New to BI and Have Questions

I opened the hole up to 1.5" so that there would be no future issues with any pigtail combo.

Re: New to BI and Have Questions

I currently have the wire hanging through a 3/4" hole. It sounds to me like I need to increase that to 1" or 1 1/4" for the pigtail to fit through. Is that correct?

Re: New to BI and Have Questions

You've given me some great ideas. I'll run conduit all the way (it's not over 25') from the camera's planned placement to the unfinished part of the basement (where the switch will be) so that I can swap out entire lengths of cable if need be. With that in mind, would you still run two cables per ca...

Re: New to BI and Have Questions

Thank you strogg, TimG, and Matts1984!!! So if I'm hanging these below a T&G wood ceiling, would the rough wiring (one CAT6 and one backup per camera) just be the wire hanging through a hole drilled in the wood ceiling? I'm sorry I'm asking some dumb questions, but I want to get this right. Came...

Re: New to BI and Have Questions

>assuming you'll be using conduit to protect the CAT6 from your house to the camera? The wiring will be in the unfinished (but closed to the elements) ceiling. If you think conduit is needed, I will be happy to do that. Should I install a regular 1-gang rectangular box or round? I don't know if most...

New to BI and Have Questions

Hello everyone, We have been planing our new house for a while and I knew I wanted to use BI for a small security camera setup. Our plan is to have 4 cameras that feeds alert video to our phones and possibly a hard-wired monitor in our house. I haven't spent a lot of time studying BI, but now's the ...
