Camera Discovery shows nothing

Post by bigdog »

When I to to add a camera with the Camera Discovery where it scans my network, it literally comes back with nothing. I have to manually tell it the IP address of the camera. Any ideas?

Thanks

I've never tried it from a pure "something is out there" discovery point of view. All of my cameras are (and IMO should be) fixed/static IP addresses so this has never been an issue for me. I stand up a camera, assign it a permanent IP, do my basic camera side configs, import to BI.

I have NEVER gotten this to work. UPnP is enabled on my router. And, I've even logged into the camera and enabled it in the camera.

I was testing this again, and it worked when I disabled my firewall.

Just an FYI, having UPnP enabled on your router allows devices to create port forwarding rules without you approving them which would expose those devices to the internet. For security it's best to disable UPnP on the router and all devices and manually setup port forwarding rules (as a last resort, if there is no better way like using a VPN)

I added the cameras I do have by knowing their IPs but was just curious why their discovery function didn't work. I figured it would work like an IP Scanner and at least show them. Ideally all these should be on a separate VLAN to keep them isolated to their own playground.

Thanks
