Blue iris adjustment

I would like my camera to take photos or videos when something or someone walks past but I can't, can someone explain to me what setting to make to make it work, I use Blue Iris 5

This is like step-zero type functionality and not an "adjustment". You should start with BI 101 video or similar. I'll try to find the link.
