How to read BVR metadata outside of Blue Iris?

Post by chenlab »

Hello,

I'm interested in reading out the metadata from the BVR direct-to-disc files, specifically the time stamp information, without having to load the files in Blue Iris. Does anyone any code or functions in Python or other 3rd party software that can help with this?

Thanks,

I've tried finding another viewer for the BVR's. Couldn't find one.

Doesn't really matter, because you can use BlueIris on any computer unlicensed to view a .bvr file.

Doing this gives you the same viewing & exporting controls as in a licensed version of BI. Complete with Motion & Text overlays - if you want them. Export to a standard viewing format that can be viewed on almost any computer/phone/tablet.

Providing the original .bvr is important for submitting video in a court/legal case, as an exported video could be considered 'edited'.

To view a .bvr file on another computer...
- Download an install BI on that computer. It will be a unlisenced copy and give you 15 days in a limited trial.
- Transfer the .bvr's to that computer.
- Double click the .bvr file you want to view. BI will start and give you an 'Next' option to register, and 'Demo'. Choose 'Demo'. The video will play. Subsequent .bvr's will play, until you close BI, and you'll need to choose 'Demo' again.

Yes, there have been several requests to have a BI Viewer for this scenario. Maybe someday.

I could be mistaken, but the way I interpreted the OP's question it seems he wants to extract timestamp metadata to use somewhere else.
