is there a way i can setup zone rules/conditions so that it alerts when an object leaves a zone?
for example, my driveway camera is setup so i can see cars that pull into my driveway, (the rear of their car, as where i live thats the only place we have plates). i'm struggling with getting the picture of that end of the car to the plate recognizer.
thanks for any help.
and yes i have watched a number of videos, and searched the best i can, but was not able to readily locate a solution that appears to work.
help me understand zoning
Re: help me understand zoning
Yes. Definitely a way to do that. In my experience, it can get involved. In summary, it's an optimization issue. Motion sense -> Object Detection -> Camera Triggers -> Pre-trigger buffer images -> DS Analysis -> Object Recognition -> Confirm or Cancel. Confirmed proceed to Alert Actions. So the timing of what is being sent to BI, and what BI is passing to DS is critical to optimize. Approach it step by step:
Is my camera configured properly - BI only sees what the camera sends so that's the starting point.
Am I sensing motion when I expect?
Does the camera trigger when I expect?
Did I record everything I expected?
Zones come into play after the above. If that's locked in, every thing that follows is a breeze. Just a cursory understanding of the issue your having suggests that you need to tune your motion sensor so the camera triggers on an event of interest. BI Support published how that is done -> Playback window - Fine Tuning Motion Settings.
If you get lost or need help of any kind, just say so. There's friendly help here.

Re: help me understand zoning
I'm not doing this with deepstack, i have a fairly tight camera view of the driveway that will capture the lower end of a car or truck, and clearly be able to read the plate(if one is in the picture), i do have a timing issue, as BI is sending the first few frames which do not contain anything useful to platerecognizer.com, which is why i'd like the trigger to be when an object completly leaves a particular zone.
attached is not the greatest image, but a quick snapshot to illustrate what is being sent to the plate recognizer

Okay! Big fan of pictures to illustrate a point. If you want a quick triage of what's going on, post the following screencaps:
1. Trigger tab
2. Motion Sensor settings
3. If zones and obj det are enabled, screencaps of those
4. Record tab
That will be a good starting point.
