HIKVISION camera ONVIF triggers appear to show continuous recording

Post by rhauff »

Hi, I am considering using BI with my new HIKVISION cameras model DS-2CD2086G2-IU. I hope to use the cameras built in motion detection to lower the network traffic.
I have ONVIF triggers working, but cannot seem to get the trigger to END. I have tried checking and unchecking "Trigger until reset", and played with Break Time/Max Trigger duration, which all seem to have no effect.

In the timeline, it seems the recording is only a few seconds long at each trigger, but I don't know why the time line shows a continuous blue bar as if a continuous recording.

Screenshots... of various settings may help.

If you want to get to the bottom of it, three screenshots:
  1. Camera Settings -> Trigger tab
  2. Camera Settings -> Trigger tab -> Configure -> Motion Sensor Dialog
  3. Camera Settings -> Record tab

Finally had some time look at this again. It is indeed recording 8 hour clips, sometimes there is a few minutes not recorded between clips, until it is triggered again. As I said before, I am using the Camera motion sensing, not BI (at least that is my intention). Below are my settings:

Here is the Camera>Video>Config. I used Find/Inspect to get camera Profile, then just checked "Get ONVIF Trigger Events"

Ok, those 8 hour clips are not continuous, despite a continuous blue bar. They are made up of 8 second snippets recorded every few minutes, plus 5, 7, 10, or 12 second snippets that are External Triggers.

The 5, 7, 10, or 12 second snippets do show in the left Alerts column as External, but i don't know what is causing those 8 second snippets to record.

I think I see what's going on.... here's how you get it squared away. STOP, do not pass GO, head directly to Connecting cameras - best practices. Configure your camera firmware settings as directed by Camera Settings. Finally, faithfully follow Step 2 ONLY.

The biggest impact on overall performance is sub streams - it is a heralded feature of BI. You aren't using the sub - want to lower network traffic? That's the first step. Configure your cameras correctly, and everything flows from there. If you don't do that, it'll be like trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum. Promise.

After a couple weeks of playing with BI, as far as I can tell, it appears the continuous blue bar just means the Clip file has not been closed because the 8 hr limit has not been hit yet.
It's kind of moot to me now, as I am turning on continuous Substream recording.
