That's a weird one. Do you still have the old pc to get the individual camera setting files ?

Other than that, reboot and try importing again.

Sounds like maybe a permission problem, make sure you are running BI as administrator. Since the .reg file is a registry file, you could probably run it from an elevated command prompt. Be careful.

I had assumed they had done the export in BI so were doing the import via BI so in theory BI would be running elevated?

I’ve never done an export/import so can’t really comment but yes it does sound like a Windows permissions problem. I think BI exports in regdmp format so you could use the reg.exe command to see the contents of the export and maybe see what reg keys it’s actually trying to import.

Today I transfered BI to a new computer. After installing V5 and importing the exported settings it needed to restart. It did shut off but did not restart (as happened to sprucebi too). After another restart or two my camera's appeared as yet. After entering the license key I still have the Blue Iris Evaluation Version overlay, like it's not been registered. Now I want to downgrade to a latest version which my license covers, but in the Blue Iris News and Updates window all install options are not clickable. Why is that?

I **think** it only shows the versions you have saved with "Retain a copy of the update package" rather than in an online repository.

It doesn’t even show that, once your support expires, all the options are greyed out so unless you were on the ball or want to visit the site that shall not be named your sort of stuck.

Imagine the situation, your BI PC dies or you want to move your install to another PC. So you make sure you have all your license keys, you remove it from your old, prepare the new PC. You grab the BI app from the official BI website and install it then add all your keys.

If you have valid support then no issues, hopefully provided the backend servers currently processed your removal from the old PC.

If your support has expired you’re kind of snookered as the BI app will install the latest and unless you had an update saved away there’s nowhere “official” to grab the specific version that you are allowed to install and use.

I’ve read of people in this situation and the reply from support is to renew support. Now I’ve got to agree, the renewal is quite cheap but to me that just doesn’t sit as a solution.

So the advice I’d give to people is as your support is about to expire make sure you download the updates in and around that time as it might come in handy at some stage?

Aha, now it becomes clear to me that you have to back up those previous versions yourself. I'm going to try that tomorrow. Thanks!

Copied BlueIris.exe from my old to my new PC and that's it!

At first I tried to do it the clean way by making a backup of the current executable that I would use as another previous update (both by means of the News and Updates window), but that didn't succeed because of an error message ('Encountered an improper argument'; this was after clicking 'Install latest critical...' which enabled the other options that were grayed-out at first and thereafter checking 'Make a backup of the current executable' and hitting OK.) Besides, with the same old version up and running on my new PC, still the install and backup functions are grayed-out and in contrast to what's the case on my old PC cannot be enabled.

To me this part of the software isn't working properly or I just don't understand how to use it in the right way. Maybe the software should just say "Hey, your subscription is about to be expiring, make a copy of the executable. You may need it some day. Keep it with your license key." But I understand this undermines the revenue model a bit.

You might potentially have an issue, namely that your BI exe is an older version but what you have in the main BI app folder will be a newer version of UI3. So and this is a big so, if there have been changes made to UI3 that rely upon that specific version of the BI executable then that might cause issues/problems.
