accidentally set my password to start the service wrong, and now I can't open blue iris to change it
I accidentally set the password to launch the blue iris service wrong, and now I can't launch blue iris to change it. I hangs at waiting for service, then pops up a window that says "The service may not be initializing properly or quickly enough; try again in 30 seconds and reboot PC if this persists." That's not helping. I need to reset the password, but I can't launch blue iris to reset the password. Any help would be appreciated.

Crikey ! Most of the previous solutions on this forum and the general www involve the registry, and they tend to delete just about all of the settings. Are you able to email Support to see if there is another way ?

If he has the registration key he can always start over from scratch. May be faster than waiting for support anyway, (if he happens to still have an active agreement.)

Just go to Services within Windows Computer Management, find the BI service and open it to check Properties then change the username/password there

Excellent advice, but may or may not be successful for any number of reasons.
There's a pretty high probability something else has gone sideways if the 'local_console Admin' user doesn't even open the desktop app ..., unless it was intentionally prohibited in the Startup which can be a whole other problem in and of itself.
I'd say a more knowledgeable approach to a complete re-install would probably be the most effective method for achieving both an immediate solution along with 'lesson learned' to avoid encountering the same situation in the future.
BTW, I tried the approach you suggested without success (to simply change the password for the service). It threw an error, prompted a try again and reverted to the local console. Starting the service required the previous password. I tried several times without success when it dawned on me that my PIN may also be somehow in the mix (as far as BI was concerned, anyway). Didn't have time to play much further. I just left it there.
Perhaps trying to launch directly from both BlueIris.exe and/or BlueIrisAdmin.exe (in the main Blue Iris directory) may jump-start things to the point of at least opening a console session. Just thinkin' out loud now...
