Hi,
I hope this post isn’t too irritating! I’m a new user of BI 5.9.5.3 on Windows 11. I’m trying to use the system for wildlife viewing with my Jennov M-series camera. I can get the live view and have recorded video clips using motion detection and these are the most important functions to me, but I continue to struggle with the user interface. Can anyone recommend a tutorial, or reading list? Here are some of the tasks I find hard or impossible:
- Add a camera. Most posts I’ve seen recommend the Main Menu button to the right of the Blue Iris logo, but I don’t have that button and haven’t been able to find it or an Add Camera button as mentioned in the update notes.
- List the clips that were captured. I had this up but now can’t figure out how to get it back.
- Manually focus the camera or adjust the color balance.
I’d appreciate any guidance!
Allen Kendall

Re: Tutorial or reading list
Hi, and welcome to the forum. Ask as many questions as you like. This is a peer to peer forum, but we have some knowledgeable members here. Any Support query would have to be an email to HQ though.
There are many videos on YouTube which will help with the basics, but BI5 is always changing as new technology like AI comes along. That's probably why that button has gone

Re: Tutorial or reading list
This is the best overall Blue Iris video tutorial series out there. It's dated, but the basics still hold true today.

Short and effective videos presented in a logical sequence for learning the basic nuts and bolts.

1. Add a camera - I'm running v5.9.5.4 and there is a + on the top right hand side of the main window showing your cameras. You could also right click in an empty part of that window to see "Add new camera".
2. List the clips - Top left hand side menu. There is an icon that looks like a piece of movie film. Click to "Show/Hide clips". You would probably choose "Alerts" then as they are the ones identified by BI5. The clips are the much longer video files that contain the Alerts.
3. Focus or colour balance - If you have used the "Find/inspect" to get your camera settings, then you should have these available. I can see "Show ptz controls" too.
