First, wanted to say "Hi!" to everyone, as this is my first post on this forum.
I'm currently evaluating BI as a replacement to my current "decentralized" setup, where each of my (HikVision) camera acts as its own DVR configured to save recordings to my file server.
While this works for now, I have concerns about the future of this setup as I'm using software that is no longer supported, one on Windows tablet as my primary stationary view port, and the other on an android phone for for mobile view.
So, the very first problem I faced with BI is camera view arrangement. I experimented with "Edit layout" and did my due diligence in searching this forum for an answer, but there is a lot of info, so I might've missed it, if so, my apologies.
One specific thing I'm trying to accomplish is to setup a camera view in the following way:
As you can see, my goal is to fit 8 cameras, each producing a 16:9 format stream, into a 16:9 format display, subdivided into a 5 x 5 virtual grid.
One camera view should fit into 3 x 3 cells, three cameras into 2 x 2, and the rest - into 1 x 1. And I don't want any seams to be present.
This seems pretty trivial, but I just can't figure out how to achieve that in BI. The closest I got is with 4 cameras by selecting "4-up" view, where I achieve 4 equally sized cameras without any seams.
Any suggestions? Is this even possible? I hope so.
Does BI save the current layout somewhere, which can be edited externally to achieve what I want?
PS: I did experiment with specifying height for each camera (1x, 2x, 3x...), but apparently BI wants to do its own thing, not necessarily what I expect.
No seams, specific camera arrangement
Re: No seams, specific camera arrangement
A combination of using groups and "keep with next" in the layout editor then copying the results to a blank desktop window to save as a 'finished group' may get you in the ball bark, but not without significant effort. With all of the other available options, you'd think a "Resize with existing aspect ratio would be there somewhere that could make things adjustable both larger and smaller if desired. Not sure why 'customized' is greyed out and why options for 'height' only go larger.
But like many things in Blue Iris, there could very well be a quite simple solution as well..., if you wrote the code. Or..., "Why would anyone want to do such a thing?"
Please follow up if you figure this out. You certainly aren't the only one who has found the layout editing capabilities to be very poorly implemented.
edited to add; Btw, the 'no seams' aspect can be achieved by just disabling the names and borders and 'forcing height/aspect on console' to the extent the camera resolution/size allows it to occur. Some initial manipulation of any 4:3 camera to mimic 16:9 will work if necessary.
Cameras will still go full screen/full res when solo'd regardless of how the may be manipulated for a custom desktop console or monitor display.
