Do recognize that if you have any zones, they will be warped and not accurate to the original settings if you zoom in or out with the lens.

I think the goal was to do it via BI rather than touching the camera.

Re: How Do I adjust hardware zoom on a varifocal lens camera?
make sure you have "Enable Pan/Tilt" etc checked in the "PTZ/Control Tab" in each camera's settings in Blue Iris.
That enables the zoom for varifocals in BI live view screen.

Re: How Do I adjust hardware zoom on a varifocal lens camera?
I figured out how to overcome the same problem with a ipc-b22ir-zas (empiretech/dahua). The final thing that fixed it was to temporarily DISABLE authentication for ONVIF directly in the camera's web interface under Access Platform, save it, (tested that it worked), REENABLED that authentication and click save (and tested again that it still works, even after rebooting the camera).
(Update: I noticed a 'refresh' button on that Access Platform / ONVIF page. That's all I had to click when adding the 2nd camera.)
Other settings I either set or triple checked:
- set PTZ to ONVIF in blueiris for that camera
- reset the admin password in camera settings under the ONVIF tab (to ensure it matches what i set for admin on the Account tab)
- made sure I'm using the admin user in blueiris and that it has the PTZ checkmark checked
