Struggling with Android app Remote access

Post by itm60 »

I've just installed the BI app on my Galaxy S24 Ultra phone (I am travelling, and using hotel wifi). I used QR code scanning to add the BI server (using my laptop and my VPN to access my BI server at home). I saved the server details, but when I then tried to connect I got an "unable to connect" error. I have used remote access successfully before (using the BI Android app on my last phone, with the same username and pw), so I guess that my server-side setup and username/password are OK.

I use DDNS to access my server from home, and have forwarded port 1079 to port 81 on my router, so I edited the server in the BI phone app to:
mydomain.ddns.net:1079

But I still get the "unable to connect" error.

Any ideas??

Can you connect locally?

Is this only a WAN issue?

Did you open port 81 on you router and point it to the static ip of your BI server?

All these things should have been done before you tried to access the system remotely

There is a wizard in the settings of the BI server that will test this and let you know via canyouseeme

Thanks for your reply - yes I have the port opened and forwarded to the BI server. I have since been able to connect remotely (I suspect maybe the issue was related to firewall or other restrictions with the hotel wifi).
HOWEVER....when away from home (using 4G) if I try to open any clips from the Alerts list the app crashes immediately. I can access live streams, but not recordings linked to alerts. This does not happen when I'm at home on the LAN

Hmmm....it looks like I'm back to square one. Once again I can no longer access BI using the app or a web URL over 4G/5G, or via a 3rd party VPN (PrivateInternetAccess). My BI web server is running on port 81. I have port 81 on my router forwarded to the BI server.
If I access
http://myexternalipaddress:81/ui3.htm?group=Index
from inside the LAN I can access the BI web UI. If I enter that URL from the WAN (either 4G/5G or a VPN) I get refused access.
Any idea what the problem might be?
