Blue Iris Code Project not detecting - Animals- Birds???
Blue Iris Code Project not detecting - Animals- Birds???
Since Last Oct 2023, I have not received any triggers or alerts for any Animals birds. I have tried using custom and adding animals to each camera. Then people are not captured. Go back to default and I can get People and Cars but no Animals or birds. Yet I have tons of holes in my back yard where possums, Racoons, and Cats constantly dig or poop.
I have a priority account with blue Iris but they can't help because its a code project problem.
I'm really frustrated with with this under Deepstack I always got animal and bird alerts and captures.
Can anybody help. Please.

Re: Blue Iris Code Project not detecting - Animals- Birds???
Let's start from basics:
1. Are you using the default CPAI model, or a custom model. Which one ?
2. What does your AI setting page look like ? You can only look for things that are in the model you are using.
3. You must use the correct "case" for each object, and you cannot add spaces between objects. "person, dog, cat" may be OK (depending on the model being used), but "person, dog, cat", "Person,Dog,Cat" or "Person, Dog, Cat" may not be. If you are only getting the FIRST object identified, it could be this.
As an example, one of my camera settings looks like this:
4. The "To confirm" names are as shown in the Github model settings. All lower case, and no spaces between objects.
5. The "To cancel" is used to keep the AI checking after the first identified object. Put something in there that you won't see like "unicorn".
6. The custom models in my case is using "ipcam-combined", but I have to add :0 to prevent those other models being used on this camera.
If you now have "Save AI analysis .DAT files" ticked, you will be able to see what the BI5/CPAI analysis actually did. Here is an example for the above camera:
Here you can see the "To confirm" details at the top, and the asterisk shows the preferred identification using the "ipcam-combined" model to identify "person" with 83% confidence. I select the Alert image on the left, hold down Ctrl, and double click the Alert image to open the AI window to view the DAT file.

Thanks for the reply. I really frusterated. I pay for the Premium Blue Iris support but they say its a Code project issue. Tanks for the reply.
I'm sendiing you screen shots of my setup.
I have tried different combinations of custom modules but when I try I don't even get People, car alerts.
Also please excuse my use of terms I don't really talk to anybody about the Blue Iris Code Project issue.
I will say I only use the Default setting if BICP.
I also have to say. I have no proff becasue there is no record but 2 or 3 times I have caught an image on my phone S23 Android of a cat. but when I try to open it, it's not there I chech on the server and there no alert.
I even to to the Code Project Desktop and Server Logs and nothing is there.
I tried to send you some Alert .dat files and the .txt file with more Server logs but the fourm won't take it.
I really would appreciate any help.
Thanks

Re: Blue Iris Code Project not detecting - Animals- Birds???

I have to ask after looking at your reply.
If we have the Default object detection selected, can we still use the ipcam-animal model???
By the way i don't care about faces or license plates. I just want people, vehicles, animals or birds.
I noticed you have alpi:0 what is alpi ?
I also see you have ipcam-combined in the camera AI config. Can that be used if you only have the default module running???
Thanks
Joe

Re: Blue Iris Code Project not detecting - Animals- Birds???
Hi,
CPAI takes a lot of setting up, and of course as far as BI Support are concerned, it is a third party program. The forum is a user to user help forum, so we can try to assist. I managed to set it up before there was much info by trying everything until it gave in.
Now from my previous post I mentioned that you "To confirm" words MUST be in the model you are using. The old CodeProject web page has gone now, but the DEFAULT model might still be the same:
So HERE are MikeLuds custom models, and this is what they contain:
Oh, ALPR is the car licence plate model. When you get CPAI working, you then check the DAT files. If you see a camera with no view of the road using the ALPR model, you stop it by adding "alpr:0" as shown before.
Have a search for that CPAI guide for setting up BI5. It tends to use port 32168, and you don't want BI5 to automatically turn CPAI on/off as it runs as a service.
Good luck, and I'll be back tomorrow

The initial purpose of MikeLuds custom models was to remove things that don't concern surveillance. Broccoli was my favourite. By removing the fluff and reducing the size of the model, it should speed things up. Next, as I said before, if you want CPAI to search for "raccoon, skunk, squirrel" etc, they MUST exist in the model you are using, and you must use the same case. Without that, CPAI will fail. The Default model doesn't contain them.person, bicycle, car, motorcycle, airplane, bus, train, truck, boat, traffic light, fire hydrant, stop_sign, parking meter, bench, bird, cat, dog, horse, sheep, cow, elephant, bear, zebra, giraffe, backpack, umbrella, handbag, tie, suitcase, frisbee, skis, snowboard, sports ball, kite, baseball bat, baseball glove, skateboard, surfboard, tennis racket, bottle, wine glass, cup, fork, knife, spoon, bowl, banana, apple, sandwich, orange, broccoli, carrot, hot dog, pizza, donut, cake, chair, couch, potted plant, bed, dining table, toilet, tv, laptop, mouse, remote, keyboard, cell phone, microwave,
oven, toaster, sink, refrigerator, book, clock, vase, scissors, teddy bear,
hair dryer, toothbrush.
So HERE are MikeLuds custom models, and this is what they contain:
So you could use the "ipcam-combined" model if it contains all of what what you are searching for. There is a guide for setting up custom models somewhere on the www but I can't find it, and it's getting late in the UK.IPcam-combined Labels: - person, bicycle, car, motorcycle, bus, truck, bird, cat, dog, horse, sheep, cow, bear, deer, rabbit, raccoon, fox, skunk, squirrel, pig
IPcam-general Labels (includes dark models images): - person, vehicle
IPcam-animal Labels: - bird, cat, dog, horse, sheep, cow, bear, deer, rabbit, raccoon, fox, skunk, squirrel, pig
IPcam-dark Labels: - Bicycle, Bus, Car, Cat, Dog, Motorcycle, Person
license-plate Labels: - DayPlate, NightPlate
Plate Label: - Plate
Delivery Labels: - amazon, dhl, fedex, homedepot, ikea, lowes, target, ups, usps, walmart, garbage, & uhaul
Oh, ALPR is the car licence plate model. When you get CPAI working, you then check the DAT files. If you see a camera with no view of the road using the ALPR model, you stop it by adding "alpr:0" as shown before.

Re: Blue Iris Code Project not detecting - Animals- Birds???
For what its worth, ipcam-animal does not distinguish between a fox and a dog. Foxes visiting my yard, 5 ft from the camera, are all 90% dogs. I have a squirrel that is 75% person, and rabbits that are 75% dogs, but never a rabbit.
Re: Blue Iris Code Project not detecting - Animals- Birds???

Thanks again for the reply.
Like I said before, I'm not very knowledgeable with the anyreal aspect of the AI detection process.
So, to be clear because I don't know MikeLugs ?
Under the current Code Project Server ver 2.9.5.0. as it is written today should I use the custom models or use the default?
When you talk about cpai is that a separate application or part of Code Project Server?
For your information, I tried using the CPAI Default Object Detection model.
I have 12 camera, On camera1 my front door camera. I added to the Custom Models line "ipcam-combined"
and added "person, car, truck, bird, cat, dog, rabbit, raccoon, fox, skunk, squirrel.
Note: Does the IPcam-combined need to be in caps? also is there supposed to be spaces between the objects in the "To confirm:" because I don't have them but it shows spaces on the Mike page?
thanks
Joe

Thanks for the reply.
If I can I don't care what the AI finds. I would just like it to alerts the critters period. Any.
I don't get any alerts or triggers on any Animal.
My back yard is being torn up by either racoons, possums, or skunks.
Also I have cats that I see on my camera but Code Project won't trigger or alert.
It's funny when we had deepstack I always caught every animal and bird that would land on my yard.
Thanks
Joe

Re: Blue Iris Code Project not detecting - Animals- Birds???
Ok, I see.
First off, let's distinguish between triggers and alerts. If you enabled and set up motion detection, and it used to work with DS, then you should be getting triggers, and clips should be recorded (you may even have continuous recording enabled).
Alerts on the other hands are triggered events confirmed by CPAI. If CPAI confirms the trigger, an Alert will be added to the "lightning bolt" list. If CPAI does not confirm the trigger, the alert will move to Cancelled Alerts list.
To me it looks like your trigger object size is too large and may miss small critters. You can confirm this by recording a clip (or viewing a clip) where critters are present, and then playing it back and using the Tuning feature (available by right-clicking on a playing clip) to see where BI detected motion, and when / if it Triggered. I set object size to 120 in my BI.
Then, enabling the DAT files in the AI will show what CPAI is doing (or not doing), and why alerts are not confirmed.
You should disable Default object detection and only use Custom models.
