Record Options help

Post by wddossett »

Hi,

when my camera triggers I am not getting the amount of time I put into the pre-trigger record time or playback time. I pushed it up to 10 seconds pre-trigger record time and 8 seconds pre-trigger playback time and it isn't doing that, in face I seem to be missing a good few seconds of the trigger. My video is set to when triggered. I am still not 100% sure why you have a playback time that is less than the record time either... but in any case this isn't working for me.

Reading the manual it says the stream buffer time is used in conjunctions with direct to disk recording. Not sure if that is what I am doing exactly, I thought I was recording to disk, but I guess it may be recording in a buffer and then writing the buffer to disk? In any case, my stream buffer is set to 0, I have never touched that. The manual says that a minimum of 5.0 seconds is enforced. Is this my problem? It also say that you will need to increase the buffer size if my camera has a key frame rate of les than .25fps.

At the bottom of this section it says my cameras FPS and key frame rates are displayed on the about tab. There is no about tab I can see on the camera settings. On the status under general tab, I see 30.08/.50 fps. I guess that might be the frame rate and the key frame rate. I've just tried increasing the stream buffer time but it will only let me set it to 1.0 - and it says in the manual, without a network camera or direct to dis recording .... it will be limited to 1.0 - I have network cameras - I don't know about direct to disk recording...

I've used Blue Iris for many years, but not really dug to deep into things - sorry, I'm no expert on this, but would appreciate if anyone could help!
thanks
Bill

Have you checked Direct-to-disk under File format and compression, accessable by the Record tab?

Pre-trigger record time is applicable to clips, where Pre-trigger playback time is that for alerts (as can be viewed by clicking the lightning bolt of the clip list). Normally you want this time to be much shorter cause there's no loss of possible missed motion, as this is covered by the pre-trigger record time.

My Stream buffer time is set to 30 sec, just like the pre-trigger record time and BI is running fine with ten camera's. Don't know if that's necessary though. It's just one of the things the manual could be more clear about.
