Cars go by really fast

Post by nixadm »

I have 2 cameras facing the road, I get alerts of motion and it shows a car but the motion is extremely fast.

The cars are probably going 15 mph but the cameras only record what seems 1-2 frames. I tried adjusting the speed bar in playback but doesn't help much.

Well, the first obvious question is.... what is the frame rate that your cameras are transmitting the video at?

You could then measure (or estimate) the distance from one end of the scene to the next and calculate how many frames should be captures.

I had a freshman high school math teacher who taught us that by using the units of each term you could easily figure out if multiplication or division would be needed to get to the answer.

You've got:
  • frames recorded / sec
  • miles / hour (or better convert to feet/sec)
  • feet distance
Frames Recorded = (x frames recorded/sec) * (sec / y feet) * (feet distance)

The frame rate is 25 and 11 under sub stream.

Here is a video of it, it used to be slower/smother. It must be something I changed to optimize the system.

Grok says you should have about 55 frames.

https://x.com/i/grok/share/ErcTNZBZ20ziSUEC24Z1Zt9Mj

Here's how you can convert those measurements into frames:

Frames per second (FPS) to frames:
11 frames per second means 11 frames for every second. So, if you want to know how many frames occur in a given time, you would multiply by the number of seconds. However, if you're asking for just the frames for one second, it's directly:
11 frames in 1 second.
Miles per hour (mph) to frames:
This conversion isn't straightforward because "frames" here would need a context or a specific conversion rate which isn't standard. However, if we're talking about capturing motion at 11 fps, then for every mile at 15 mph:
First, convert mph to feet per second:
1 mile = 5280 feet
15 mph = 15 * 5280 feet / 3600 seconds ≈ 22 feet per second.

Now, if we capture this at 11 fps, over one second, you'd have:
242 frames (22 feet / second * 11 frames / second), but this assumes each frame captures exactly one foot, which isn't necessarily true in practice without more context.
Feet to frames at 11 fps:
If you're asking how many frames it would take to capture 50 feet at 11 fps, assuming each frame captures exactly one foot (which is not always the case without more detail on the setup):
Approximately 55 frames (50 feet / 11 frames per second).

Please note, these conversions are somewhat theoretical since:
The actual number of frames for capturing distance would depend on how much of the distance is captured in each frame.
For mph, you'd typically need to know how long you're capturing this speed or the distance covered in that time to convert to frames accurately.

If you have more context or specific requirements for how these measurements relate to frames, please provide more details for a more precise conversion.

How did you get that video clip you posted to your amazon sandbox? Was that a convert/export file?

Something is clearly messed up.

Yes Grok seems right on. I'm not that great at the math either, I just know it doesn't seem right. It used to show the car driving by slowly, now it flies by.

That video is how it looks on my Blueiris. I just did an export from the app and uploaded it.

Are you using Intel gpu acceleration on this camera ? If yes try turning it off as a test.

Have you looked at the playback speed in BI, have you got it set to something higher like 2x or 3x! I also noticed that the clip has a gap in the recording based upon the timestamps just before the USPS truck is visible, the time stamps indicate the USPS truck is visible for only 3-4 seconds. Just some observations and possibly not relevant to the issue

Thanks for the help guys, I tried a bunch of changes but it was still not right. I just deleted the cameras, added back and its working good.
