I have question

Post by Prect1992 »

When you buy the Full Version for instance, for how long is the license going to be valid? Do you need to renew every year or something like that?

And is it possible to upgrade to new versions with that license?

Hi,
The licence is valid for a very long time, I don't know where it is defined, but it would be many years. You can keep running the initial version that you installed.

You are entitled in the first year of that license to install upgrades. After that 12 month period you cannot unless you purchase a maintainance plan which gives you another 12 months.

Some people run one version of BI5 for years. Other people like to keep up to date so have to pay for that.

I don't even think there is a penalty for letting support lapse for a while and then renewing later down the road for updates.

One minor tweak, you can keep running the version that was last available at the time support expired. Getting those update packages is a little off-books though so keep your update exe files saved somewhere.

That's how I understand it too. You could miss paying it for years, and when a new BI5 function comes out that you want, you get a maintenance plan so you can install it. BI5 does not need an annual subscription. If however you want every update every year, you have to keep paying for a maintenance plan.

One word of caution, if you are an Apple family then even though what has been stated above is true the Apple certs get refreshed every year so if you let your support lapse then you might be faced with alerts stopping in your mobile when the certs expire!
