Shift from low res to high res image in BI app

Post by Ferguson »

I feel like I'm missing something obvious.

I have a bunch of 4mp and 8mp Empire Tech cameras, all are set up the same way, with a primary stream 3840x2160 and sub of 704x480 (for the current case).

For all but one camera both in UI3 and in the BI Application when I go from multi-camera to single camera after a couple seconds it shifts to the higher resolution feed.

On one camera in the BI application it never switches. In UI3 the same camera does switch.

I've gone through all the settings and I cannot see anything different. Though other than the substream definition I'm not sure what to look for. And the underlying video must be right since the UI3 display works fine.

What controls this switch, is there a setting in the BI display I am missing?

Watching along for the response. My system is configured to switch to high for recording events but it would be nice to switch when viewing the camera in either web or app.

Shows how confused I am, I didn't know it was possible NOT to have it shift to full resolution when you display a single camera view.

For the OP:

Could it be as simple as this selection in that BI5 camera menu ?

That absolutely is it. Honestly I never even knew there was a right-click menu there, I've been pouring over the gear-symbol menu looking for such a feature.

Despite being in the IT field literally all my life, I confess I remain baffled by much of the BI UI and where to find things. Thank you for removing one mystery.

I was wondering how you managed to set up your cameras without knowing about that. It's been a long time since I did a new installation

It's possible I knew at one point. The memory cards in my head were installed a very, very long time ago (in fact I think only mag tape was available). But I also think everything can be done from the gear symbol. But it's definitely a mea culpa for not trying right click.

The parts that truly baffle me are the transitions, from current time, all cameras, to single camera, to single camera bigger, back to the beginning, and worse if I am reviewing history and trying to get back from single camera to same point in time all cameras or similar, and do I click (or is it double) on the image or in the border of the image(s), etc.

I am certain this is all documented somewhere. It just doesn't stick, so I click all over the place until I get something I like (I do know where the current time clock is!).

But back to the original question (sort of) -- so where is the same thing done for UI3? I swear this was working fine for all cameras, but now I have one camera there which, when I click it to solo, it goes to the substream (I can actually see it change aspect ratio). I've checked the profile (it's 2160pv4VBR, just as the others are). I just went through every camera and only one doesn't work, yet that one works fine if I am playing back a timeline clip, just not live. And I tried right click, and I didn't see any camera specific settings in the preferences (though it's about 20' long to scroll through so I might have missed something).

FWIW the one that won't work is shown largest on the layout I use, it's about 4x the size of the other cameras as it's the front yard leading to the door. But when I click it, it actually gets smaller (but is the only one shown), and is nowhere near full resolution.

If curious here's a cell phone video of the UI3 screen changing (or not changing): https://youtu.be/BlFzyNT3l3M
