sporadic high RAM usuage - FIXED!

Post by NGNeer314 »

BI normally uses about 3.7 gigs of memory consistently, and CPU stays below 40% (its an i7). Occasionally i'll find the PC becomes almost unusable and i get low memory errors. Task manager then shows it using 5.8 gigs RAM!

It happens every couple of days, and I've been keeping up with downloading new updates, but its still happening.

any ideas? :|

Are you using Intel hardware acceleration ? There have been memory leak issues with some Intel display drivers.

i'm using a nvidea video card, so no intel drivers.

but actually i discovered that the high RAM usage was corresponding to a problem with writing to the 2nd harddisk in my PC (which is used just for BlueIris storage).

BlueIRis starts using the RAM to buffer the video that can't get written to the disk.

so, the RAM problem is solved, now to figure out my disk issue..

thanks for the help.

I increased allotted storage space to 850 GB (on a 2TB harddrive) and once it reached it the same thing happened as before (RAM usage went up, and very slow response). Here are screenshots of disk usuage status before and after trying to "repair DB" (didnt work).

whats going on?

My troubles with hard-drive corruption and memory problems started when I simultaneously upgraded my PC hardware and also went from BI 4 to BI 5. At that time I did a settings export from BL 4 and then re-imported it on my fresh install of BI 5.

Maybe something got corrupted when i did the re-import between versions. Anyway, last week i uninstalled BI, deleted all the settings from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Perspective Software\Blue Iris in registry, and then painstakingly reconfiguration all 11 cameras by hand (they are all different brands, and most don't auto-configure nicely).

Keeping my fingers crossed, but so far its working perfect. It has reached the max space i allocated on the harddrive and is continuing just fine deleting the oldest files first....
