settings

Post by josua70 »

This might seem redundant but.. I want it to start recording immediately when it detects movement. I cannot get this right. For example, Someone comes to the door. It records them leaving but NOT approaching. I never had this problem with the older version of BI. This is asking a lot, but if someone could give me the settings to record something like this, I would really appreciate it. I understand how to record longer, it's the trigger and record that's giving me problems. I have read the Help section so many times to no avail. Just can't get it right! Don't understand if it's that confusing or if it's me. Actual settings would be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure, but you may want to look at the pre-trigger record time setting. I don't know if that's it, but it's something to check.

Hi josua70,

Many of the settings haven't changed that much since BI4, so I'm sure you will be close to sorting this. The only built in delay for triggering that I can think of is the "Make time", which I have set to 0.1 or 0.2 seconds. There are other things that could affect it, but I think we need to know more about your BI5 system:

1. Is the pc running OK and the cpu not overloaded ?
2. What resolution is the camera ?
3. What are your settings for object size and contrast ?
4. Which "Algorithm" are you using, and have you tried the others ?
5. Do you have "Object detection" and/or "Use zones and hotspot" enabled ?

The solution will usually be found by experimentation, and we can guide you with this. Other options are:

6. Run existing recordings with the "Test run video through motion detector" to see where it triggered. That may give a clue.
7. Clone the camera and try different settings to see which works best.

There is no "one size fits all" with the settings. Every installation is different.

Thixotropic has suggested altering the pre-trigger record time setting. As I understand it, that SHOULD start your video recording BEFORE the trigger, but I think it may load up your cpu. Could be good for testing though.

Cpu's running at 13%, I set resolution at 720. Haven't tried different algorithms yet. I just changed the make time as suggested and the pretrigger. Will try this and see. Thanks
