Trying to play a sound file for call alert, but I get "Modem cannot play audio; disable option."

Post by deadeye »

I purchased a Conexant USB CX93010 ACF Modem for my BlueIris system, but when I tried to set up an alert to play an audio file, I got a "Modem cannot play audio; disable option." when I tried to test it. Am I missing something? What modem has ever never been able to not play audio? Why would BlueIris be reporting that (how can it tell)?

I find this very confusing. Modems are for transmitting data not audio. Can you clarify what you are trying to do?

Yeah, I didn't even know where to start with this one.

I've used lots of modems over the years but can't recall anything about sending audio to a modem. (??)

I was trying to use the BlueIris "Make a Phone Call" alert. It says that I need a modem connected in order to use this feature. According to the manual, it requires "A PC modem with a connection to your sound card and a TAPI hardware driver are required." I purchased a USB modem thinking it would work, but I guess it's not the right type of modem, so I think I need to do more research to find the modem that meets these requirements, as I'm pretty sure the problem is with the limitations of the modem that I purchased.

Thanks for the BI help file reference, it does clear up what you are trying to do.

The help file states that the action is "somewhat deprecated" as it needs specialised hardware - I bet you need the same modem I use for Homeseer house phone whitelisting (No scam/spam/unwanted calls whatsoever here). The Way2Call Hi-Phone desktop PN: HD00USGR02. It is indeed used for “answering machine” applications as well as “robo calling.”. In my application, a Homeseer script checks if the caller id calling is in the address book. It doesn't ring the house phones unless the number IS in my address book. Everybody else has to leave a message - which the robocalls don't do - and Homeseer sends me an MP3 of the message to my mobile phone if it is created.

Clearly I can't guarantee the Way2Call will work, but since I picked mine up from Ebay for £30 each ($300+ new), it may be worth a punt. You could always ask Support if I am correct 8-)

I just tried disabling Homeseer on that pc to see if BI5 could see the HiPhone, but it didn't appear in the alert modem selector. It's time to ask support which modem to use. Do let us know the response 8-)
