Could they just save protected files to a different folder ? You may not be able to pinpoint them from within BI5, but you would be able to find them all in the folder

I actually suggested that to Ken - a separate folder. Then that folder can be indexed just like Alerts and the others. But that's just spitballin' I have no idea how viable that is.
Good to know others are on the same page.
EDIT: The point I'm trying to make is that protected clips need to be managed the same way as all of them. Especially since you get a build up of protected items that grow over time and you don't know how to find them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UPDATE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am happy to report that the ability to filter protected clips has been implemented in v5.5.4.3. Now a user can easily find protected clips by selecting the filter and using the calendar. I'm super stoked about this feature.
Got to agree, I do love the way the BI author listens and improves based upon user feedback but even more impressive is the turn around time.
Now... before I compose another email to support, I would appreciate your opinions on protected items - the documentation is unclear about what exactly is protected. It seems pretty clear that when you mark an item protected from the clips list, the item lives forever in the Alerts folder. But what about the BVR associated with the alert?
As far as I understood it protects the entire BVR as the clip associated with the alert is ultimately linked to a specific recording file.
