Not receiving push notifications
Re: Not receiving push notifications
I'm having the same problem. It just stopped working on 2 different android devices around a week ago. For awhile I wasn't getting any notification at all. After the last update (5.9.7.4 x64) I get a standard android notification. But I can't even customize that to a specific sound so there is no way to tell what the notification is without unlocking the phone and looking. (I don't use the image push, just the sound). This is critical for me.
Re: Not receiving push notifications
Update the software on your BI server. The latest version fixes the push notifications on Android. I had the same issue, but an update fixed that.
However, DO NOT update the app on your phone. I just came here looking to see if others are having the same issue, but I just updated the app on my phone this morning, and BI will no longer run in the background. I frequently run it in the background if our youngest is napping so I can hear when he wakes up, but the app closes the second it loses foreground focus.

Re: Not receiving push notifications
I am on the latest version. Release 5.9.7.4 x64 (9/11/2024) and it did not fix the problem. Unfortunately, in the process of trying to resolve the issue I had already uninstalled the android app and reinstalled the latest version from the app store.
The current status is no notifications on android whatsoever. Not even a standard android event notification, and yes, notifications is enabled.
I sent a support email about it and got a response on 9/9/24 stating that they were aware of the issue and working on it.
It would be nice to hear the current status from the developers. Do they believe it is resolved? If so what is the correct process for the user to get it working.

Re: Not receiving push notifications
I'm trying to get this working and this is what I've found out so far. I have 3 cameras setup to send mobile push notifications, each with a different sound (selected from blue iris packaged sounds). I have 3 different mobile devices setup on the server and each camera is setup in the Alert Tab->Actions->On alert->Push notifications. I have 1 camera that is *sometimes* working. That is, 1 mobile device gets the push notification but only plays the selected sound of 1 camera's alert sound. The notification sound from the other 2 cameras is the standard android notification instead of the selected blue iris selected sound. And all of the notifications are "hit and miss" - mostly hits if the mobile device is unlocked and the display is on. And all of this is only working on 1 mobile device. The other 2 mobile devices are not getting any notifications.
--edit--
I deleted the Alert Tab->On alert->Push notification on the 3 cameras and recreated it, and I can get the push notifications on 1 android phone from all 3 cameras (haven't done anything with the other 2 yet). But the phone has to be awake for it to work. I've looked through all of the android settings for notifications and battery use and enabled the android blue iris app for background and set everything else I can find to allow the notifications. But if the phone goes to sleep -> no notifications.
This makes me believe that google changed something in android, which worries me because when the notifications stopped working there had not been any android updates, at least no normal update notification. And the blue iris server had been on the same version for at least a few weeks. Does google modify the android operating system on our devices without any update notifications? I don't trust google enough to be OK with that.
I will continue to try different things and post updates.

Re: Not receiving push notifications
Same issue as everyone else. Hoping an app update fixes this. Wonder if rolling back to an old version of the app would correct it as well. Security software is pretty useless without being notified of an event detection.
Re: Not receiving push notifications
Hey TimG,
No home automation set up on my end. Occasionally, the notifications come through, but without an image. Additionally, the custom notification sound I use has stopped working. I’ve tried everything, but it’s stuck on the standard default beep. I normally use a creepy voice saying “I see you” so I’m alerted when someone approaches my door and I know it's blue iris because of that sound. I’ve reinstalled the app and tried other troubleshooting steps, but nothing has worked.
So, no image with the push notification for sure and no custom sound. Quite frustrating!
Re: Not receiving push notifications
I was informed by BI support that the updated version of the app would resolve the custom sound notification issue, but after reading this, I’m seriously concerned. Normally, my phone screen is off while I’m going about my day, and I rely on alerts to notify me if something’s triggered. It seems like these problems are spiralling out of control.MakoWish wrote: ↑Mon Sep 16, 2024 1:26 pm Update the software on your BI server. The latest version fixes the push notifications on Android. I’m currently using version 3.0.46 of the app on Android.
How can I revert to the previous version? If this current version prevents notifications from coming through generally when the screen is off, I’d rather go back to the previous one, as this version isn’t working properly either, at least not for the custom notification sound.
I'll have to run some tests whilst the phone screen is off to confirm if this is the case... I'll keep y'all posted
Re: Not receiving push notifications
I would suggest asking Ken about this to see if he can add an override button in the app. That is - if the previous version could do this. He is very receptive to good ideas with sound logic behind them. How can I revert to the previous version? Re: Not receiving push notifications
Just to confirm, with the mobile phone screen off and the Blue Iris app completely closed, alerts are still coming through! This should alleviate concerns regarding missing notifications when the app is not actively running in the foreground.Sardon wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 5:12 pmI was informed by BI support that the updated version of the app would resolve the custom sound notification issue, but after reading this, I’m seriously concerned. OS: One UI 6.1
Android version: 14
I still however do not get an image and the sound is a horrible standard text "beep"
Re: Not receiving push notifications
If you primarily just use the app for alerts, give Pushover a try. You won't look back.
It is incredibly well supported. $5.00 -- once.
