MANY of their customers now have non-work programs.
And they are NOT seemly taking care of them as there are no replies from company personal:
You can read it for yourself here: https://www.facebook.com/blueirissoftware/
And more bad news: By a Terry Rickman:
“Money grabbing company- Well it was good software...not so much anymore. Seems like they are pushing to force you to pay a subscription fee. I purchased version 5 via a upgrade option. Now They are saying the version of V5 they put out is not supported by my version 5 license and I need to pay for their yearly service. I paid for version 5 and expect you to honor that. NOT COOL. Maybe it is time to move on. The app was screaming at me to upgrade my version to the latest. After updating the program to the newest version of V5. It went into Eval mode. Contacted support and they tell me to pay for the yearly support option.”
WTF…well that is that.
Well, it's been quite a journey. The above FB info was in 2023 when Ken had a server failure and then found his recent back ups didn't work. That even affected the forum, where we lost thousands of posts and a lot of the missing images here are due to that. Perspective Software is a small company, and they were caught out by this. It did highlight that your BI5 installation does licence checks back to a server, and people found BI5 would go into Eval mode following a reboot. I didn't reboot ! It all settled down after a while and other peoples BI5 installations were restored.
The way to use BI5 is to set it in General settings to save the installation files when it updates. You get 12 months of updates, and you can re-install the versions you downloaded in that 12 month period for many years - as long as Windows will allow it to run. The people complaining were running BI4 for years when there were no licence checks, then Ken stipulated a 12 month update window for BI5 and it's a problem ? This is really simple. As long as you have those files you downloaded in the first 12 months, you can re-install them at any time in the future. There is NO "subscription". However if you attempt to install a version of BI5 from after your 12 month period it will go into Eval mode.
Think of it like this; maybe Ken adds some new function that you really want in three years time - then you get a 12 month support plan and update BI5 to get the new functionality. Then you don't bother for a few years. Personally I like the updates, so I have an active support plan - that I pay for - all of the time.
I must say I am amazed how quickly you upset Pogo. He will spend hours helping people if they want it.
