I have one camera that I cannot change the keyframe interval on, nor can I use CBR (The firmware is very crippled).
It's currently running 15fps, .5 keyframe, VBR with a max bitrate of 4096.
I finally got motion detection to work, but I had to lower the contrast and min object size greatly compared to my other cameras to get it to reliably detect motion.
Has anyone run into that on certain models of camera? Or does VBR have something to do with it? I have a good mix of brands and models, but they all share very similar motion settings.

This sounds like a camera specific issue. Maybe with the firmware. Best to contact the camera manufacturer if setting the keyframe is even an option. Perhaps they have a firmware upgrade that adds it.

Support from the vendor is a negative. They told me it's not supported to change from VBR to CBR or adjust the keyframe rate.
That's the last Reolink product I'll ever buy. Sadly it seems like a well made unit, at a good price point too.
I'm also past my Amazon return window (I bought this as a spare, but just now trying to use it). I did adjust the motion sensitivity and it seems to reliably capture motion. I just don't have the warm and fuzzies about relying on it.

I have several Reolink 420 turret-style cameras and they've been okay so far. The motion detection seems to work as it should but my setup is almost certainly different than yours. Not a bad camera for ~$40 or so.

Out of curiosity can you change your CBR/VBR and keyframe? Somebody on another forum mentioned they could in their RLC-420's.
From my research, the hardware is identical inside but the firmware on the 410 got crippled. I found a page that explains how to decompile it and possibly hack the 410 with the 420 firmware. Just have to find the time to do it..

Here's what in the Reolink control panels that have adjustments for frame and bit rates. I don't see CBR or VBR, unless it's named something else there.
I reduced my rates from the default to lower values to help reduce stuttering and lag/jumps in the video.

Those settings are the same that I can change.
My settings are actually close. I'm using 4000 bitrate, and 15 fps.
