BI updates reset settings

I'm running BI5, and I've had an ongoing problem with BI updates resetting my settings. At first, it used to reset all settings to default, which was super annoying. Now it only seems to reset some, and there's no telling which ones. Sometimes it's motion detection settings, sometimes it's storage settings, sometimes it breaks the network connection to the cameras. The only consistent change is that it restarts recording on all cameras every single update. I only have 1 of 4 cameras set to record now, but with every update it turns all 4 on (I've since unplugged the other 3).

I tried exporting and importing my settings once before, and it royally screwed to the BI install... To the point that completely uninstalling, deleting temp files, and deleting registry keys did not fix the problem. Somehow, finally, the last time i tried uninstalling and wiping temp and registry, it fixed that issue. But i still have this problem with settings going to default. Since buying my BI license in September, I've reinstalled BI five times and rebuilt windows 2-3 times (mostly because of BI).

There's no way this is just me here. Other people must be experiencing these same problems. I build a dedicated BI server with i7-8700 using QSV, 16GB DDR4, and a bunch of SSDs and HDDs. I've gone over all the setup tutorials more times than i can count. I'm at a loss for the problems I keep having with this program.

I seem to have some settings changed during updates; not all of them them but some do change. Most recently it was the "click/drag" setting that got set. I never changed that setting so I'm as sure as I can be that one of the recent upgrades altered it.

I could understand a situation where a setting default gets changed for a particular reason - stability, fixing errors, etc. And i get that entirely new settings might appear in any given upgrade. But generally speaking the user settings should always be retained during an update. It shouldn't be a regular occurrence that several settings get changed. And the fact that the settings export/import feature apparently doesn't even work has made this all the worse.

There's no way this is just me here. Other people must be experiencing these same problems.

I was just thinking the other day that I used to have to re-install Win7 every 18 months, as it just slowed to a crawl, and how good that old AMD Piledriver server is still doing with Win10 Pro. It's been going strong with BI and a whole lot of media programs for a few years now, and is still coping with everything. I haven't had any issues with BI5 settings changing either.
