BI APP not connecting to WAN

Post by IH784 »

Hey everybody! I’m having an issue with my Blue Iris app not connecting on my WAN. The app connect fine using lan. I also have no problems connecting to UI3 on lan or wan. I don’t have “only allow access on lan” checked. I am using ZeroTier. Would anyone have any suggestions to get the app to use with wan?

IT likely has nothing to do with the "app" but really just connecting to your machine from the WAN from any device.

Research port forwarding. That is the issue.

[edit] maybe zero tier tackles the port forwarding issue so my comment might not be right for your scenario.

With Zerotier client installed it should allocate a ZT IP, try connecting using that IP.

From a previous post, my ZT settings in the android app are:

BI5 Android app
LAN: <ZeroTier IP of BI5 server>:81
WAN <ZeroTier IP of BI5 server>:81

I remember checking with PING that the BI5 server could "see" the android device, and it could on WAN or LAN. This works for me. I assume setting my LAN to the local IP would also work.

It does indeed. No port forwarding required, and no OpenVPN style headaches to make it work. A virtual LAN between your devices wherever they are. I use it 8-)
