Move BlueIris config from non-booting drive to new install

Post by NickyDoes »

My Windows VM hosting BlueIris 5.x will no longer boot. I created a new VM and attached the non-booting VM's disk. I reinstalled BlueIris v5.9.7.4 and registered it.

No, I did not have a proper backup. Yes, that is a task for the VM stack now.

Can I move the config over? How is this done?

Usually by exporting it from the live BI5, or possibly getting it from the registry. Doesn't sound likely in your case.

Is there any valid reason why my Forum Anti-Spam tools are being triggered by the email address that you used to register here ?

If you use export settings from the about menu in the main settings window, you get a .reg (registry hive) file. It looks like it's in binary format for some reason. The location seems to be from

Code: Select all

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Perspective Software\Blue Iris
If you can find the SOFTWARE registry hive, which should be in \Windows\System32\config on the old system, you can probably open it in a third party tool, such as Zimmerman's Registry Explorer (https://ericzimmerman.github.io/#!index.md). Then find Perspective Software and export the Blue Iris key and all subkeys/values. I'm not sure what format options you have at that point, but that's why I mentioned the binary format, rather than text, up above. Then try import settings (backup the current ones first) on your new instance and point it to the extracted registry file.

All this said, this isn't what I expect would be a supported path, nor am I a member of support. So I don't know if it'll work and can't promise something wasn't corrupted in the old registry if the system wouldn't boot.

Correct - I have no reasonable ability to backup the non-booting machine. It would be faster to fully recreate the instance.

The demarcohome.com domain is a personal email domain and shows a high reputation on Google Postmaster. I have yet to set up DMARC, and must research SSL for emails.
