Clip Videos are Delayed & Jerky

Post by Durango »

I am using BI version 4. Staring several weeks ago, when I play back some of the clip videos, these videos no longer appear smooth. Instead, most videos appear jerky, and often they are delayed...they will merely stop and then start again on their own. You can even see the clock stop in the lower right corner.

Any idea what might be causing this?

Possibly malware on the pc. I would certainly do a health check on it.

Thanks for your response. I've done a health check. Plus, I run Malwarebytes Premium, and no problems reported.

Have you checked task manager to see what processes are using either memory or CPU usage! It sounds to me to be something loading you system down so that BI is not getting the resources it needs to play the video clips properly .

I just invoked Task Manager. I currently had 6 Apps and 141 Services. The instantaneous stats were as follows: 6% CPU, 17% Memory, 0% Disk, 1% Network.

So I don't see anything unusual. Do you?

Of course, Blue Iris was the biggest user of resources @ 2.9% CPU and 2757 MB Memory. My second biggest user was my browser Vivaldi.

Thanks for your response.

Well I also run Malwarebytes Premium on all my PC's, so that on its own isn't the problem. Have you set up the MWB "Allow List" exceptions like this:

allowlist.png
allowlist.png (60.21 KiB) Viewed 4499 times

If that is OK, I suggest you get the hard drive manufacturers diagnostic software to check if the drive is failing. It is usually something basic !

No, I have not set up an allow list in Malwarebytes, as Blue Iris has never been blocked. But just in case, I will do that.

When you talk about the possibility of a drive going bad, in your case that would be your Drive E, where you store your Database and New folders. Correct?

In my case, I store my folders on hard drive Drive K. Since I like to look at the Blue Iris clips, I also have a Converted/Exported folder on Drive K where I save segmented portions of a clip...these portions are saved as .MP4 files that I can then email to friends. In case you wonder, I use my 6 security cameras to view the wildlife around my property.

My point is that my Drive K has gotten a lot of use over the years, so it might indeed be wearing out/failing. I'll check it out and/or replace it with another hard drive.

Thanks for your response.

@ Tim G - I added my K drive folders (New, db & Converted/Exported) to the Malwarebytes Allow List. The BlueIris.exe file was already there.

I also did a health check of my Drive K...no problems.

I also viewed a couple of my videos using my browser, and my videos were still jerky and delayed. I even viewed my videos using the FOSCAM Video Management System (VMS); again, my videos were jerky and delayed.

So bottom line, my videos appear jerky and delayed regardless of how I view them. This problem just suddenly started a few weeks ago. I even changed out my router, but that didn't help. I've used Blue Iris version 4 for several years before this problem occurred. Unless you or other forum members have any more ideas/suggestions, I'm inclined to upgrade to version 5. Your opinion?

Are you able to view a BI4 MP4 video when it is located on a different pc ? That should rule out if they are saved like this or only play back like this on the BI5 pc. Can this pc play MP4 videos from elsewhere of a similar size and resolution ? What if you play a good MP4 that you had previously sent to a friend ?

Did BI4 do the Intel hardware acceleration ? If yes it is always very driver dependant so could be unbalanced by a Windows update.

Foscam VMS: Was this playing BI4 MP4 videos or something else ?

I don't think BI5 will instantly help here as it probably uses more resources than BI4. Always worth having the latest software, but it's no magic solution if something else is wrong.

Thanks for your continued help. Per your suggestion, I will not upgrade to BI5 at this point. Instead, I will go away and try and get answers to your good questions. I do have other PCs that I can use; I even have BI4 installed on a 2nd computer, but it currently exhibits the same delayed and jerky videos.

It may be a day or two before I get all the answers, as I have a couple of appointments that will take me away from the house. So don't give up on me....
