WARNING: Do Not Renew/Update using MyCommerce/Digital River platform

Post by MikeBwca »

WARNING: Do Not Renew/Update using MyCommerce/Digital River platform
Purchase/Renew only at/after version 5.9.8, which uses a new key-less payment system.

Per the BI recent news article 'MyCommerce/DR Meltdown'.
excerpt
...
The very painful fact is that if you purchased any Blue Iris product through the
MyCommerce/Digital River platform since July 1, 2024, we have not received
any of this money.
...
This leaves the customers stranded by MyCommerce which is still taking orders, and not sending customers license keys, or sending the companies (Blue Iris) their revenue.

According to the article by Blue Iris, a new better key-less payment plan has been put in with version 5.9.8.

Thanks Mike, there are basically three threads on this subject. The other threads started with a "Why isn't this MyCommerce link working" and morphed into the realisation that MyCommerce was in difficulties. It is now clear that this has been a major problem for the finances at Perspective Software.

The first thread was Support Renewal problem, and Thixotropic opened My Commerce Meltdown where he sent some $$$ to Ken. Feeling the love !

This should have been brought to the attention of all Blue Iris customers (currently subscribed or not) by the developer himself immediately upon discovering the extent of the problem.

This after the fact dribble into the 'official forum' on an obscure thread by thread nonsense basis is pure BS.

The official news was released by Ken yesterday, and I added it here on the same day to clarify things.

Since Ken stated that Blue Iris customers would not lose out at all I don't see what the problem is as it does only affect customers paying for something between July 2024 and now:
The very painful fact is that if you purchased any Blue Iris product through the MyCommerce/Digital River platform since July 1, 2024, we have not received any of this money. As a small business, this has been an extremely stressful time here, considering that more than 1/4 of a year’s revenue is being withheld, and we must consider the possibility of pursuing legal action, while realizing that the money may never be recovered. We have also had to scramble to setup new eCommerce solutions (which are light years better, except for lack of integrated tax handling).
Of course we have decided to “do the right thing” and honor your purchases — we are not going anywhere! In fact, we are still hard at work supporting and advancing Blue Iris and there are many exciting updates yet to come.
How many companies has MyCommerce put at risk like this, and how many were forced to close down ?

I did happen to notice the alert banner on my startup/splash page this morning. At least there's that for anyone who happens to require a reboot and is paying attention.

Otherwise...

The 'problem' is that it has been a known condition since July and has affected lots of folks subscribed or not in any number of ways, probably most notably in the area of support and email response in general. And considering keeping the business itself alive has undoubtedly been priority #1 since the problem came to light, prioritizing human resources has likely been a strain at best, which is understandable to a point.

Combine that with the CPAI team dissolving and there's a real can of worms for everyone needing attention/support for what is a arguably the most popular and widely used VMS platform out there..., and not just by hobbyists who use it to control garage doors and spy on their neighbors.

Even today this is still breaking 'news' for many..., in mid-October.

Very poor response any way you want to spin it.

Hopefully lessens have been learned..., and Perspective has a good lawyer.

My CC statement shows that the charge when I renewed in September went to PERSPECTIVE SOFTWARE. I'll report as fraud if this means it didn't actually go to Perspective.

I suggest checking with Support, as being a peer to peer forum we certainly can't give you legal advice. What a dreadful situation.

I have been sick of dealing with Digital River for years. Their tracking system is horrible when administering multiple BI systems. I'm hopeful that the complications will now be resolved per the bulletin posted on the BI splash page.

I imaging Perspective has been getting the runaround from Digital River for a few months, which delayed informing customers of the situation.

End of October and I just found out. I log into the server rarely to run updates. Kinda saw the banner by accident after if failed the first update and I had to try again. So I guess I do nothing for now?
