Looking at buying Hikvision DS-2CD2387G2H

Post by Drekko »

I use Blue Iris 5 and have a mix of Hikvision and Dahua cameras

The above model I have pointing to my side gate. We live on a corner so our backyard is basically a facing a footpath and anyoen can pretty easily jump our fence and get access into our back yard

I am located in AU and we all have timber to steel fences but they can be jumped and climbed over by a young fit person easy

Anyway we are getting more crime in our area and people are reporting alot of stuff like checking for unlocked cars and one even had their car stolen from entering their home and taking their keys

All these reports are from CCTV so it doesnt really deter them but I want change one camera thats pointing to our gate and backyard to one that has a in built alarm / siren

Something to scae them and wake us up so I can come out guns blazing

I am looking at this model camera :

Hikvision DS-2CD2387G2H-LISU/SL 8MP 4K Smart Hybrid Light ColorVu Turret Camera With Strobe / Speaker

I have a flood light near the current camera so any motion at night will also trigger the light and it comes on

So a few questions:

The above Hikvision camera has IR so this should avoid the "blindness" that happens when another light source comes on during night vision? ( like a flood light)

I just want to ask here if the flood light will cause any issues? The sales people said it wont but you know what sales people are like

Can I configure the alarm in blue iris or do I have to do this within the IP camera settings? ( if I can do either what is better?)

Also if there are any other things I need to know or watch out for or disadvantages?

Are you a home automation guy ? You could use an ONVIF "motion" output from a compatible camera to tell your HA that motion is detected, and you can switch anything on from there.

In my case I have CPAI detecting "person", and sending that to Homeseer (via MQTT) which can turn on my drive lights if it is night, and turn them off again after ten minutes if there is no more "person" motion. I can also see the ONVIF commands in Homeseer directly from the camera:
