5.9.9.14 FPS drop

Post by PaulDaisy »

I ran 5.9.9.14 for a while, and it seemed Ok. But I started noticing slowdowns in the FPS of several cameras, especially the Panasonics that send a 1080p substream, but also two of the Dahuas. I rebooted the PC, the cameras more than once and nothing helped: the substreams stayed at 2-3 FPS.

Downgraded to 5.9.9.11 and the issue instantly went away. I wonder what that was all about.

It appears that the issue is elsewhere. 5.9.9.11 shows the same problem at times. It appears that using the console causes it. If I just check the cameras using UI3, everything seems to work ok. If I open the console and check the status window, things start slowing down. I have not found the smoking gun yet.

I did add another camera when I noticed this. Maybe my computer is struggling? But the CPU says 30% use in Task Manager. I dropped the FPS from two of my cameras to 15 from 18 and they seem to be stable at 15.

Strange.

Well, contrary to "don't fix it if it is not broken", I updated to the latest stable, 5.9.9.23. I have 15 cameras that have been running for months on 5.9.9.11, but had slowdowns on 5.9.9.14.

The FPS dropped to 1-3 FPS on four of my 4k cameras that send 1080p substreams. The total network throughput dropped to 102-108 Mbps and stayed there.

Downgraded back to 5.9.9.11. All frame rates are back to normal, 15-18 FPS on 1080p cameras; network thorughput is back to 120 Mbps, peaking to 160 Mbps some times when cameras are triggered and record 4k.

Something is suboptimal in the newest versions, at least on my PC.
