Taken back to DEMO mode after updating

Post by Lepelot »

I ran into a problem today. As I was trying to update my software to the latest 5.9.9.28, my license key was refused and I was taken back to the DEMO version. Trying to re-use my last license key didn’t resolve the issue. Any ideas??

Hi, do you have an active Support plan, or did you purchase BI5 in the last 12 months ? General settings should show it.

If your support plan has expired you can only use the version that was released prior to your support running out.

I bet the next question is how to tell which version, well that's quite difficult to confirm unless somebody here has been tracking releases and the date of release.

I have previously mentioned that the official website should list the versions and release dates making it easier for people to work out which version they are entitled to run but this then raises another question? Where do I download that version? Only place was the "other" site which this site distances itself from! But since the last few months even that site doesn't have this info as their update bot has stopped working!

All in all unless you have an active support plan all a bit of a mess and don't even get me started on Apple certificates or the fact that the official site shows the latest update but you end up downloading an older version :)

If you are looking for older versions of Blue Iris prior to the end of 2024 the downloads and the release date they can be found here https://ipcamtalk.com/tools/blueirisupdates/

Thanks; yes I know, that is why I said updates prior to the end of 2024!

I think the BI tools allows users to archive each update. If someone in-support can save them off we can keep a list.

Or, maybe someone (I might try to) write a cron script to look for changes in the download page and download when a new version is posted.

I save each Update and it's matching Full install when updating each update. This has saved me many times. I also do this for regression testing - which I only had to do a few times.

Is it legal and/or against the licensing policy to distribute Updates and/or Install files? I don't this it is. Anyone know?

Also, accepting an update/install from an unknown source is risky. Best to contact BI support to see if they'll send you the update/install file.

I do not. Good question. This forum is hosted by BI with their resources but is managed by volunteers. If they frowned on hosting or sharing copies we would need to comply here.

Yes, there is a risk so downloading one from a Chinese web site with grammar mistakes might be risk. As much as Fenderman is a prick, at least he is a hygienic prick and I would download his execs.
