City Fibre

Post by nibble999 »

Ok, so ive moved over to city fibre in Peterborough, well village outside, i have a Icotera i4850-25 router which was supplied from 4th Utility. For the love of me i cant get my Remote access to work......Ive done port forwarding, played with all sorts, ive had a few people i know look and they say your doing nothing wrong, ive rang 4thg utility, they say they don't block anything.... as i go through the remote wizard, i get all green ticks so its reading all stuff correctly, but when io get to the Upnp bit where i want o add blue iris, it use to bring up my ip cameras' and then i would click add blue iris and ok then carry on....But now when i click use Upnp to add blue iris, nothing come up in my list and it doesn't let me add blue iris as its not highlighted. Is anyone else having this issue? How do i over come it? I don't have a static IP, as 4th Utility said see if it works tomorrow cause they made a couple of improvements with my speed they said, but it doesn't work, we could move you to a static IP, will this make any difference? whats the solution? Thankyou in advance

Ask them if you are connected by CGNAT. I think you will be if you are under their 3Gbps package. If you are you won't have an individual home WAN IP address to connect to - it is shared by many users. The usual fix is indeed to get a static home WAN IP address, so see if you can get that without spending too many ££'s. I recently went through the same thing with YouFibre in Notts, but I already knew about CGNAT. It costs me £3 extra a month and gets rid of all the DDNS faff.

It's a little worrying that their Support people don't understand the CGNAT issue, as it is well known that it doesn't allow port forwarding :?

Si just rang up and this guy knew exactly what he was talking about, said yes 100% it wont work unless you have a static Ip and this will allow Port forwarding :-)... so lets see if this works tomorrow once my static IP arrives, oh and he charged me £5 a month extra lol

i wish i knew what i was doing lol... ok so i got the static ip, on my lan settings i guess i now have to change to "Static" and put in my static address which i now know what it is, but what do i put in the Ip netmask? 255.255.255.255.255?
then the gateway ??
Primary DNS
Secondary DNS?
8.8.8.8

what would i put in my port forwarding range now its giving me all sorts of errors lol

You shouldn't need to do anything at all except maybe restart your router, the switch over is done at their back end.

When I had the same issue but with Community Fiber, they just switched me over and the router picked up the change automatically. The chnage did upset my ipv6 config on the router but when I restarted the router a few days later it sorted itself out.

With GCNAT, certainly with Community Fiber I could port forward using ipv6 just not ipv4.

I think you need to slow down and tell us what IS working (General internet access ?) and then what isn't working. Nothing to worry about :D

All my cameras work I can see them all on blue iris, I just can’t see remotely or even over WiFi, I’m currently waiting for my static up to arrive, I only found out last night it takes 2/3 days and they will email me once it’s on…so I guess I just wait until I get that email then see what happens
