Reolink doorbell camera finally has HDR

Post by TimG »

Hi all,

I have the Reolink POE video doorbell model DB_566128M5MP, and it has new firmware dated the 28th March 2025. This is v3.0.0.4662_2503122271 which gives it HDR. I can tell you it works well in bright sunlight too :D

I can't find a software release note so I don't know if there are any other big changes.

Do you know if there’s going to be an imminent release of an updated doorbell. Just kicked my Ring subscription into touch as they are taking the urine and was looking to replace it with a Reolink doorbell but I’ve heard rumours that an updated version is due soon.

Unless these rumours are always around after a product is released

There is a new version. The original one can be identified by having a round lens and pushbutton. Available as POE or wifi. From what I have recently read, the black camera has a 4:3 screen ratio, and the white version has a 3:4 screen ratio which is probably better for a doorbell camera. I have the black POE version, which came with an indoor (rf) sounder:

The new version has an elongated circle around the lens and is battery powered. I have no info on these but the advert states "Works with Reolink Home Hub & Wi-Fi NVR":

They do appear to have a sale on today  Oh, and the HDR made both day and night images better than before.

I did see the battery version but from the reviews it is sluggish on doorbell press as it has to wake up and as far as I know it’s not directly ONVIF compliant so work with BI? I suppose this last bit makes sense as being battery powered it has to go to sleep to conserve battery.

I was hoping as the POE/wifi versions have been out now for some time that there might be a new improved version being released soon.

I'm quite happy with the POE version, and I can see the Onvif commands in Homeseer for more home automation goodness:
