on the clip-storage status tab i clicked "Repair DB", and then this showed up in the messages. What could be causing this?

after rebooting the computer i tried the "rebuild DB" button again. This time it seems to be working, but it says regenerating 5549 files, even though there's less than 500 files in the BlueIris folders. When it says "files" does it not mean physical files?

Well, something was holding it.
Make sure your BI drive is excluded from Search Indexing, and, Your anti virus program.

Each clip is counted as a 'file', even if it is a pointer into a contiguous recording and not a physical recording.
I tested this by listing all the clips in the clip list, then adding all the contiguous current records. It all added up. And, yes, I had significantly less physical files.

if you would excuse another silly question, what defines a "clip"? I have all the camera's set to record continously. I thought each camera gets recorded to a single file until some maximum file size is reached. or does a new "clip" whenever motion is detected?

my BI PC has no antivirus program. I did go ahead just now and disabled indexing, thats a good idea...

Tonight I received the same message when trying to repair/regenerate the database! I just recycled BI, and it was fine.
That was a weird coincidence.

I might have finally figured out what caused the "locked file" error messages (which hopefully also was causing all my other problems...). I had only allocated 10 Gigs for the "New" folder, after which it was getting moved to Stored. Apparently some BVR files were being moved to Storage even though BI was still writing to them.
ANyway, I bumped up the "New" folder to 100 gig. So far no "locked file" messages, or other problems. Hope this did it...

Now that makes sense. Users usually have the opposite problem after over allocating space, but 10GB is indeed very low. My"New" folder is presently set to 210GB on a 250GB SSD. Keep an eye on the clip storage graph to check it is OK.
